Police involved shooting sparks protests

A violent protest occurred in the city over another officer involved shooting from the weekend. A 37-year-old man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood.

The officers involved are on administrative duties for 30 days. One of them is placed on probation. Superintendent Eddie Johnson says he released body camera footage because the community needed answers immediately.

CPD describes the body camera footage saying it shows four police officers approaching 37-year-old Harith Augustus because he showed characterizes of an armed person.

According to witnesses, two officers shot at Harith Augustus, but right now police are saying only one officer fired.

There seems to be some resistance in the video, followed by a pause where there are an apparent weapon and magazines on his person.

Police say he did not have a conceal and carry license. Following the shooting, a protest took place Saturday night.

Protesters used what they could, rocks and bottles, and threw them at CPD. The protestors damaged two cars. There were four officers injured and four protesters arrested.
