Michael Jordan speaks out on police and race relations

Today, Michael Jordan wrote in an open letter that he "can no longer stay silent." The former Chicago Bull who is considered one of the greatest players in the NBA history, released a statement on the shootings of African-Americans and the targeting of police officers. He also used the letter to announce grants of $1 million each to the Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

“I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well.”

"As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers," Jordan writes. "I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well."

He hopes the resources will help each organization make a positive difference.
