Amtrak Cancels Trains To and From Chicago

Schools and businesses are closed because of the frigid temperatures, but people still have to report to work. For those who commute, Amtrak has officially canceled all trains in and out of Chicago.

Officials say if any commuters have to pay additional charges to change their train tickets they will waive those fees. All other refund information is on their website.

Their decision comes after extremely cold temperatures and as a way of keeping everyone safe in the city.

Warnings of frostbite and hypothermia have been issued for all Chicagoans.

But these cancelations don’t end on Wednesday, they’re set to be going on through Thursday, with long-distance services not expected to run either.

South Shore Line, which takes you around Northwest Indiana to Chicago, has also suspended service after a test train resulted in significant faulty wires overnight. It's unclear if service for the South Shore will resume tomorrow.

Chicago Public Schools cancelled classes Wednesday and Thursday since these temps can pose a threat to students.

Cps CEO Janice Jackson said their main priority is to ensure students remained safe.

Airports are also taking a hit. At O’Hare more than one thousand flights have been canceled. At midway a little over 300 are canceled.
