CPS Prepares for CTU Strike

CTU President Jesse Sharkey says although progress was made these last few days there are still too many unresolved issues.

This morning both sides will meet to go over their last-ditch efforts in hopes of avoiding a walkout.

Yesterday, both sides came out in agreement that they needed a solid contract, in order to get a deal done.

The CTU says the reason is that they are sending the decision to their House of Delegates who need time to review it.

Sharkey has also said they strongly recommend the delegates not back down from striking.

At the table for the union is special education resources, smaller class sizes, more staffing, nurses, and librarians.

Cps CEO Janice Jackson says they've already included 95 out of the 250 support staff positions, but it takes time to fill them.

Sharkey says the union came into these negotiations asking a lot because teachers give a lot and they want to see the same from CPS.
