First City Council Meeting

Mayor Lori Lightfoot's first 100 days in office are in full effect. On Wednesday, she'll have her first city council meeting, where she vowed to tackle aldermanic privilege and push for ethics reforms.

Population loss and education are heavy topics that the new mayor wants to tackle.

For one, Lightfoot said we all have to give families a reason to stay.

We can do that by dealing with the violence, making sure our neighborhoods have great schools and making sure police officers know that the strongest tool they can carry is engagement with the community.

On Tuesday, Lightfoot announced major developments on STEM at the University of Chicago. She talked with community members about the importance of education and business.

The new Deputy Mayor for Economic Development is Samir Mayekar, who Lightfoot says can immediately start making a difference.

The Chicago Public School board hasn't been announced. Lightfoot said we can expect a list of names soon, but right now her focus is on parents and teachers.
