Jussie Smollett Lied to Police in 2007

The fallout of Jussie Smollett's alleged attack is prompting investigators to take a look into the actor’s past.

An incident happening Los Angeles back in 2007 came to light. Smollett was pulled over on suspicion on a DIU. He gave officers the wrong name, claiming to be one of his brothers. That lead to him being charged with impersonation.

Court records show Smollett pleaded no contest so he could get a reduced charge to several charges from that DUI incident, including providing false information to authorities.

A LA city attorney spokesperson says Smollett was sentenced to two years probation, in this case and also for a DUI count and driving without a license.

Smollett later went on to complete an alcohol education and treatment program.

Fast forward to January 29th of this year, Smollett reported he was victim of a hate crime in the Streeterville neighborhood.

According to Smollett, two men approached him, yelled racial homophobic slurs, poured a bleach-like substance on him and tied a noose around his neck.

Three weeks later, two law enforcement sources say it was all a hoax. CPD hasn't confirmed that yet. They're looking to interview the actor; two men who were persons of interest allegedly told police they were paid to stage the attack.
