Lori Lightfoot with Two New Endorsements, Ahead of the Mayoral Runoff Election

Time is winding down and powerful leaders in the city are standing behind the mayoral candidates they think would best fit Chicago. Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle are both announcing new endorsements.

Over St. Patrick’s Day weekend Lightfood announced two big endorsements. The first one coming from U.S. Rep Jesus ‘Chuy’ Garcia.

Both were at the city's South Side Irish parade. Garcia has known Lightfoot for almost four years and he says Lightfoot would be great for moving the city forward, but her main qualification and really why he's standing with her is because he knows she'll target the issues of safety and police accountability.

Garcia is extremely popular in the Latino community because one of his main priorities has been serving that community while focusing on immigration issues.

Former mayoral candidate and Southwest Side attorney Jerry Joyce also endorsed Lightfoot, presenting her as someone he knows to be honest and bright.

Joyce is one of six former candidates that's endorsing Lightfoot. Toni Preckwinkle has not had any former mayoral candidates endorse her, but she has a vast number of unions on her side, like the Chicago Teachers Union and the Teamsters Joint Council 25.

Preckwinkle attended the Northwest Side Irish parade this weekend and said she'll announce  more endorsements from West Side officials later this week.

The runoff election is a little over two weeks away. Make sure you head over to our voters resource center for more information.
