One Dead, One Injured After Orland Square Mall Shooting

A man is dead and another is injured as police search for a lone shooter, who sent shoppers running for their life at a busy mall.

Orland Police haven't found the shooter, but they believe he's a 20-year-old man wearing black clothing and jeans.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening  near the food court. Police  say the shooter could be a 20-year-old man who got into a fight  with the victim minutes earlier.

Witnesses say the shooter pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots,  hitting the victim in the chest and grazing another victim’s leg.

The victim, who was shot in the chest, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Alfonso Alejandre Jr. was enjoying dinner with his family at the Cheesecake Factory inside the mall. He tells The Jam he had just ordered his meal when he heard gunshots.

“Then we heard and saw a mass of people running from the mall and then thru the restaurant itself to exit the mall,” says Alejandre Jr.. “We just got up and headed out the door, my family hid behind the cheesecake counter and then made their way out.”

Police add they believe this is an isolated incident and that the shooter and the victim knew each other.
