Get To Know Our You on The U Winner: Amber Mancha
On Wednesday, we announced Amber as the winner of the You on The U competition. Amber’s story, personality, and professionalism got our attention, and we can’t wait to work more with her in the future.
We caught up with her after her interview with You and Me’s Jeanne and Melissa. We asked her about her experience in the competition, her career, and the Chicago Cubs.
The U: What was the first thing you did when you found out that you had won?
AM: Cried! I was in the car driving to work and immediately tried calling my husband!
The U: Are you from Chicago originally, or did you grow up elsewhere?
AM: Yes! I grew up in Riverside! I have moved around a little bit though. I’ve lived in Plainfield, Aurora, and Forest Park.
The U: How long have you been doing hair and makeup?
AM: In June of this year I will have had my license for 10 years!! I was an assistant for the first year and then have been behind the chair ever since!
The U: Do you prefer doing one over the other?
AM: On myself I prefer makeup and on other people I prefer doing hair! But if I had to choose one or the other I would choose hair!
The U: What got you started doing YouTube tutorial videos?
AM: I was watching other girls who have beauty related YouTube channels and I have always wanted to be on camera so I tried my hand at it. I did not expect the response to be so overwhelmingly positive and it has just turned into this thing I really love doing!
The U: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
AM: I like to bowl and play softball! I spend whatever time I can with my husband because our schedules are so very different! I also have siblings who are significantly younger than me so I try to catch whatever they are doing at the time or just hanging with them.
The U: We know you’re a big Cubs fan, how do you think they’ll do this season?
AM: There was so much magic last season I think that they can only go up! I am really hoping that they keep this relaxed playing style and continue to have fun because it seemed to work wonders last year.
The U: You were watching Seinfeld when you got the idea to enter You On The U—what’s your favorite Seinfeld episode?
AM: I am just getting into the show now. My husband and I had a deal, if I make him watch Will and Grace then I have to watch Seinfeld. (which I have definitely been missing out) But my husband's favorite episode is “The Butter Shave."
The U: Favorite restaurant in Chicago?
AM: There are so many! However, at heart I am a steak and potatoes kind of girl so I can say right now Mastro’s is my favorite place in the city!
The U: How are you celebrating your win?
AM: My husband and I are just having a few people by to re watch the show and have some pizza!

AM: Thank you! This has been the craziest and most exciting thing I have ever done! I can’t wait to get to work!
