A Case of Equality | LGBT Senior: Care Facility Failed to Act Against Abuse

Marsha Wetzel claims Glen St. Andrew Senior Facility in Niles, Illinois failed to intervene when she told administrators about abuse and discrimination by other residents. She also says she had her access limited to the lobby and was threatened with eviction. The lawsuit was initially filed under the Fair Housing Act. A district court judge dismissed it, saying there was no discriminatory intent shown by the facility. Now, more than one year later, LGBT advocates will be watching around the county as the appeal process gets underway.
