Chicago restaurants and chefs nab 28 James Beard nominations
The James Beard Foundation Awards are considered the "Oscars of Food." Many chefs, restauranteurs, cookbook authors, food journalists, and tastemakers in the restaurant industry strive to receive the prestigious food award. This year, it seems Chicago restaurants and chefs have won over the palates of the James Beard decision-makers with 28 nominations going to Chicago contenders.
Some of the local restaurants recognized include multiple nominations for Boka Restaurant Group. Boka is the company overseeing popular spots such as Girl & The Goat, The J. Parker, Cold Storage and more.
Two newcomers to the Chicago restaurant scene are also nominated in the "Best New Restaurant" category — HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen in Pilsen and Mi Tocaya Antojería in Logan Square.
The finalist for the awards will be announced on March 14. Naturally, the James Beard Gala will take place in Chicago on May 7. For a complete list of nominees, click here.
