Four must-have foods to lose weight
We all have heard the key to losing weight is approximately 20% exercise and 80% the foods we intake. Dr. Ian Smith of SHRED dropped by You & Me to share four must-have foods for your household to continue New Year's resolutions beyond the first week of January.
1. Almonds
Almonds are packed with of monounsaturated fats, A.K.A. the good fats. They are lower in calories and have a crunch, which is an appetite suppressant. This snack is guilt-free and will keep you full.
2. Swiss Chard
Everyone hypes on kale, but have you ever tried swiss chard? As part of the beet family, swiss chard is high in protein, fiber, and chock-full of vitamins such as vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, copper, manganese, potassium, vitamin E and iron. Throw this in your smoothie — you won't even taste it!
3. Flax seed
Flax seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, lignans and fiber. This extremely healthy seed is a simple fix to your daily diet — add them to any shake or smoothie.
4. Salmon
Salmon is a huge source of protein, vitamin B12, vitamin D and selenium. Dr. Ian calls this a "selfish pick," but he recommends any fish that is heavy in omega-3 fatty acids is essential to add to a healthy diet.
