Remembering Sports Announcer Mark Krueger

Mark Krueger, long-time Illinois high school sports announcer for CW26 and The U, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, August 8, at his home in Aurora. Most recently, Krueger was a sideline reporter for Weigel Broadcasting Co.’s statewide broadcast of the 2023 IHSA Boys and Girls Basketball State Final Tournaments. He also was an integral part of the broadcast team for The U’s Game of the Week, featuring local high school live football and basketball games.

The three-time Emmy-nominated broadcaster was admitted to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame for broadcasting in 2014. Krueger’s passion for sports was reflected in his unique, enthusiastic broadcasting style and experience as a collegiate ballplayer.

A 1989 graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Krueger pitched for the Cardinal baseball team from 1985-1989. He was a proud member of the 1987 team, which placed fifth in the national Division III College World Series.

All of us at CW26 and The U offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
