South Shore holds "Beyond The Badge" event amid police shooting unrest

On Monday, Chicago Police are gathering with South Shore residents for a community celebration. It comes just days after a controversial police shooting on 71st  and Jeffrey Avenue.

An officer fired their weapon, shooting and killing 37-year-old Harith Augustus on Saturday evening. He was being questioned by police after they spotted a gun protruding from his belt.

Protests erupted after the shooting, with police officers clashing with activists. Now, with tensions between residents and law enforcement high, all eyes are on Lost Boyz Inc’s pre-planned “Beyond the Badge” community celebration for police officers and the South Shore community. It’s scheduled for 3PM at Rosenblum Park.

The Jam’s Brandon Pope sat down with the event organizer to break down what happened over the weekend and what’s next for the celebration.
