CPD paying special attention to Chicago Synagogues
11 people are dead and six more are injured, including four police officers, after a man opens fire at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburg.
CPD is now taking special precautions, but Superintendent Eddie Johnson made it clear there were no threats to any places of worship in Chicago.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Eddie Johnson put out a joint statement over the weekend giving their condolences to all affected.
This happened after Robert Bowers, the alleged shooter, opened fire at the Pittsburgh synagogue. The Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago also put out a statement over the weekend.
The organization says words are not sufficient to convey the community's heartbreak. They're delivering many types of support in response to the tragedy, which they say is the worst attack on members of the American Jewish community in the country.
Many of their forms of support start with bringing the community together to stand as one.
The next two days, synagogues across the nation will observe a special Solidarity Shabbat.
