Three events to celebrate Día de los Muertos in Chicago
Everyone recognizes October 31 as Halloween, however the day has also come to be known as the start of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This Mexican holiday takes place over the course of a few days and focuses on families gathering to remember their ancestors. The holiday is not a day of mourning, rather one of fun celebrations, costumes, parties and more.
There are events going on all over Chicago to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Here are a handful of events that you can’t miss.
On Saturday November 4, 2017, United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) is promoting health and wellness by hosting a run in Pilsen. There will be live mariachi, folk dance groups and Chicago house music. This is an event for the entire family to enjoy.
Day of the Dead: Tilica y Flaca es la Calaca
The National Museum of Mexican Art, located 1852 W. 19th Street, has been hosting a series of events to recognize the Day of the Dead. Sugar skull demonstrations, quilting classes and other activities will all be taking place. There will also be artwork hightlighted that captures Day of the Dead theme and celebrations.
