Why You Should Watch Game of the Week on The U

The U is the place to be to see local high school basketball! Not only will we broadcast games throuhgout this season, but also 32 IHSA State Tournament games starting with the Girls Basketball State Finals on March 3.

When asked why people should tune in to The U for Game of the Week, executive producer, Fred Weintraub said, "Game of the Week has been a project for almost two decades. When it comes to broadcasting these games, we pride ourselves on incorporating an educational aspect to each game. We don't just want to know about the basketball team, but also what is going on in the school, which why we've worked so hard to develop relationships with both the teams and the schools."

In terms of why local basketball coverage is important, Weintraub stated, "We are a tea kettle that's about to boil over. The people, the schools, and the entire area want high school basketball, and we are committed to bringing it to them."

The Hilltoppers and their Undefeated Season

This past Friday, Glenbard West took on Hinsdale Central in a Conference game. They were able to seal a victory on their home turf with an impressive score of 65-32 that doubled that of the Red Devils. The following day Glenbard West competed again, this time in a Non-Conference game against Whitney Young. Both teams began the season with the No. 1 & 2 rankings in the Super 25 and the entire game was sold out in the anticipation of watching these two teams go head-to-head. With a final score of 74-59, the Hilltoppers once again walked away as winners.

These games are just two in a long list of victories that the Hilltoppers have experienced this year. Throughout this season, they have successfully beaten Rolling Meadows (No. 12), Larkin (No. 14), Glenbrook South (No. 2), as well as 19 other teams giving them an undefeated record of 22-0, and 6-0 in their Conference, earning them the No. 1 ranking.

The Hilltoppers' domination this season is due to their impeccable team work as well as their incredible athletes such as star player, Braden Huff. In Glenbard West's game against Whitney Young, Huff scored 31 out of the 74 points. It is no wonder that he has already been recruited by Gonzaga, which is described by the Chicago Sun-Times as a "College Basketball Giant."

Glenbard West vs. St. Charles North on The U

This Saturday, Glenbard West hopes to continue their undefeated season with a victory over St. Charles North who is currently ranked No. 3 in the DuKane Conference.

The U is the only free non-cable station where you can watch these games so stay tuned for more great local match-ups leading up to the IHSA championship coverage in March.
