Nine Unusual Places to Cast Your Vote Today


Chicagoans are hitting the polls today and heading to their respective voting sites. Usually, this is a school, church, library or city building, but some precincts have polling location in some of the least expected places. Here are a few sites around the city. 


Glessner House Museum

1800 S. Prairie Ave. 

Have you ever went to vote in a museum? Well, some locals will be voting at the John J. Glessner House operated as the Glessner House Museum.  It was designed in 1885–1886 by architect Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in late 1887. The property was designated a Chicago historic landmark on October 14, 1970. 

Eleanor Boathouse at Park No. 571

2828 S. Eleanor St. 

In Bridgeport, constituents will be voting along the waterfront at the Eleanor Boathouse.  Park No. 571 totals 3.06 acres and contains a two-building boathouse facility with a seating area and rowing training. Park No. 571 also features site improvements including a floating boat launch dock in the Chicago River, walkways, new lighting, outdoor fitness equipment, installation of landscape plantings and eight parking spaces.  Voters will catch great views of the city while waiting in line. 

 

Jesse Owens Park

8800 S. Clyde

In Chicago's Calumet Heights neighborhood voters will be casting their ballots at Jesse Owens Park. This park was established shortly after WWII. The Chicago Park District acquired more than 17 acres of property in 1947 and constructed a recreation building, a spray pool, and ball fields during the following decades. The new park was initially known as Stony Island Park, but was renamed in honor of world-renowned athlete Jesse Owens. 


Guide's Sports Bar

A Chicago South Side sports bar has been transformed into a voting site. They have been serving up their famous pizza recipe for over  25 years. Today they are serving the community in a special way.

The dryers are off and the chairs pushed aside, but the classic salon will make you feel like a rock star when you cast your vote!


Lawn Lane Bowl

6750 S. Pulaski Rd.

The voting area is where they host youth bowling parties which means the lanes are still free and open for a game today! Don’t strike out on this opportunity. You can cast your ballot and then maybe get in on a round of bowling. 


Su Nueva Lavanderia

4314 W. Marquette Rd.

Yes, the machines are open and running today too! So run an errand and do your civic duty all at the same time!
