Family separated at the border is reunited in Chicago
A Brazilian family separated at the U.S.-Mexico border is finally getting the chance to hug each other again thanks to a Chicago court's ruling.
In May, Linda Souza was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas under the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy. Her nine-year-old son Diogo was taken to a separate holding facility, where he was quarantined due to chickenpox. Souza’s attorney requested emergency action to reunite them. Lidia went all the way to a federal judge to get her son back. Now they are back in each other's arms.
Diogo says when he grows up he wants to be a police officer so he can help protect people, like the kids he was detained with.
Separation at the border is still a crisis. More than 2,500 children nationwide remain separated from their parents, despite Trump’s executive order.
