Laquan McDonald's mother ordered to appear in court or be barred from trial

Tina Hunter, Laquan McDonald’s mother, has managed to avoid subpoenas so far. However, the defense for officer Jason Van Dyke wants her to testify in a pre-trial hearing.

The hearing is being sought after by Van Dyke’s defense team. They want to question her about her son’s alleged violent behavior before his death. It is part of their strategy to support a self-defense argument for Van Dyke, who shot McDonald 16 times. According to the judge, a server has failed to get a subpoena directly to Hunter.

Hunter is expected in court before the trial on September 5th.
