Mayor Emanuel Gives a Welcome Address at the James Beard Awards
The James Beard Awards are known as the "Oscars of Food." Chefs, writers, designers, restauranteurs, and other culinary professionals from around the country gathered at the Lyric Opera on May 7, 2018 to honor the best and brightest of the food industry. Mayor Emanuel welcomed the event attendees to the ultimate "Restaurant City" during his welcome address. This is the fourth year that this prestigious award ceremony was held in Chicago. Mayor Emanuel announced that the awards will continue to be held in Chicago through 2021.

Mayor Emanuel also acknowledged the recent death of Chicago's own Chef Judson Todd Allen, also known as the 'Architect of Flavor.' He said "So while we celebrate, we much also remember that life is fragile. He was proud of Chicago and Chicago is proud of him."
