Lori Lightfoot Enters Mayor's Race
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a new challenger for his seat. Former president of the Chicago Police Board, Lori Lightfoot is expected to officially launch her campaign Thursday.
Lightfoot could be the biggest challenger to Mayor Emanuel yet. As a former trial attorney and risk manager, she says she will be the progressive alternative. Lighfoot is also openly gay, meaning if she won she would be the city’s first lesbian mayor.
Lightfoot was an Emanuel supporter but has been critical of the mayor since taking on her police board role. Her biggest critiques have centered around the LaQuan McDonald shooting, police reform, poverty and CPS school funding.
