New Police Technology Expanded to Battle Carjackings
Mayor Emanuel and CPD Superintendent Johnson announced that new license plate reader technology was released to support CPD’s fight against carjackings. On Sunday, April 29, 2018, five squad cars were outfitted with state-of-the-art license plate readers. They are capable of reading 1,000 license plates per minute. This builds on an initiative created by the newly formed Vehicular Hijacking Task Force.
In addition, the Chicago Police Department has 106 new officers hitting the streets. Brandon Pope gives all the details.
