The Chicago Police Department has over 80 new officers on the streets
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Department (CPD) Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced that 83 new officers have been deployed to their district assignments. The new recruits are a part of the plan to grow the police force by 970 officers.
The new officers have gone through a revamped training program that includes a cultural awareness course, de-escalation tactics, crisis intervention and procedural justice modules.
Superintendent Johnson said, "These new officers have received training based upon best practices in law enforcement and will be among the first officers to receive annual training throughout their entire career. This is an exciting time to join CPD and I encourage anyone who wants to help us make this department better to apply during this application period."
The City of Chicago is now accepting applications for the next Police Entry Exam. CPD's ongoing "Be the Change" recruitment campaign is expected to establish a diverse group of officers.
