New Chicago Public School CEO chats about the future of schools in the city
Chicago Public Schools have gone through a lot of transition in recent years, weakening the community's trust in the school system. However, a new CEO is taking over with a new direction. Dr. Janice Jackson will be sworn in as the new Chief Executive Officer of CPS at the end of January, but her CPS experience did not start there. She was CPS student from Head Start to the 12th grade. Jackson started her teaching career at South Shore High School on Chicago's south side and from there, her roles have included principal, network chief and chief education officer.
This morning, Jackson stopped by The Jam to discuss the controversy around school closings and a planned new school in Englewood. She also touched on her goal to close the achievement gap among students in CPS regardless of their background.
