Transit card, library card, and ID all in one
The City of Chicago, Chicago Transit Authority, and the Chicago Public Library are partnering to create a municipal ID for the residents of Chicago.
The municipal ID will serve as a form of identification and be accepted at all city offices. It can also be used as a library card and loadable transit fare card. Chicago residents will be able to acquire a municipal ID regardless of immigration or housing status, criminal record, or gender identification.
“An individual’s background should never be a barrier to participating in the economic, social or cultural vibrancy of Chicago," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.
The first municipal ID's are expected to be issued by the end of 2017.
