Recommended Safety Feature Missing from Bryant's Helicopter
The helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and 7 others lacked a key safety feature recommended by the NTSB. Investigators say the Sikorsky S-76B didn't have what's known as a terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS). The system didn't come standard on the chopper, but was recommended by the NTSB after a 2004 crash in Texas. Bryant died along with 8 other people, including his 13-year-old daughter Sunday when the helicopter they were in crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, California.
