Meet Chicago's Pioneering Pollard Family
When John and Amanda Pollard moved to Roger’s Park in 1886, they became the first Black family in Roger’s Park. There they raised 7 trailblazing children—including the first Black NFL coach and the first woman to earn an undergraduate degree from Northwestern. Now, their great-great grandson Fritz Pollard III and his daughter, Meredith, work to honor their family’s legacy.
