Launch of citywide GunStat Initiative
Superintendent Eddie Johnson says violence has become a stain on Chicago's reputation, but with a new initiative called GunStat, city officials are hoping to reverse that.GunStat started in Maryland. CPD SAYS from 2007 to 2012, Maryland saw murder rates decline. In fact, that's what got Superintendent Johnson and Mayor Lori Lightfoot on board. When asked if the program would be tackling the issues we have with gun offenders or trying to figure out where these illegal guns were distributed from, Mayor Lightfoot and Superintendent Johnson said the program would focus on both aspects. The next GunStat meeting would be at the end of the year. Diana Gutierrez reports
